Evergreen

Every season has its charm and in nature, no day goes by that is the same. Sometimes it is the flowering or spectacular autumn colour that draws attention, at other times it is the colourful textured bark or beautifully shaped leaves. It could be the way the foliage filters the sunlight or a breathtaking winter silhouette that makes the landscape look like a painting.

Many feel this is true for deciduous species, but what about evergreens? Are they just year-round greens and will they stay that way? Read on to discover how we experience their qualities throughout the seasons.

OFTEN OUR EVERGREENS ARE JUST THE BACKGROUND TO LET THE DECIDUOUS ONES SHINE AT THEIR SPECTACULAR MOMENTS
Osmanthus x burkwoodii as a shrub combines beautifully with other (evergreen) trees.
Green is not just green. When you get to know evergreens better, you soon notice that both leaves and needles come in a huge variety of greens and textures. Even within a species, there can be differences depending on the variety. From the moment you can play with this, you can create wonderful combinations.
We like to experiment with the density of the crowns of our evergreens. By pruning them just more compact or more open, you can vary the way they filter light.
The densely pruned forms appear powerful year-round and can create a beautiful contrast with the landscape around.
The rough texture and grey-brown colour of the distinct cork bark is unique on each specimen.
Some leafy plants flower rather inconspicuously, while others have just gained a reputation for their exuberant flowering.
